Discover Safran

Safran is a leading international high-technology group with three core businesses: aerospace, defense and security.

The success of Safran, which holds leadership positions in all of its core markets, is largely based on the technological innovations that we have integrated in our products.

First and foremost, Safran is a manufacturer of engines and propulsion systems for civil and military airplanes and helicopters, missiles and launch vehicles. We make the CFM56, the best-selling engine in the history of aviation, through our subsidiary CFM International. Today, a CFM56-powered airplane takes off somewhere in the world every two seconds. Safran also makes the rocket engines for the Ariane 5 launcher, and is the world’s leading manufacturer of helicopter engines.

Safran is also a top-tier manufacturer of aircraft equipment, with leadership positions in nacelles, landing gear, wheels and carbon brakes, electrical wiring and avionics systems for both civil and military aircraft. Our optronics systems, using infrared technology for instance, are widely used on military air, land and sea platforms.

In the security sector, Safran is a world-renowned specialist in biometric technologies for fingerprint, iris and facial recognition.
