CFM 56

The CFM56 family of turbofans, the world’s best-seller, powers a large number of commercial jetliners built by both Airbus and Boeing, in particular the A320 and 737 families of short/medium-range twinjets.

Snecma (Safran group), develops, produces and markets the CFM56 through CFM International, a company equally-owned with GE. The CFM56 is considered the most dependable engine of its generation, with a dispatch reliability rate of nearly 100%. It also offers the widest thrust range of any commercial or military engine, at 18,500 to 34,000 pounds. Snecma provides a complete range of support services for the CFM56 in its own plants and through specialized subsidiaries.

CFM56-7B

The CFM56-7B was chosen by Boeing as the exclusive powerplant on the Next-Generation 737 family (737-600/700/800/900), including the company’s large business jet based on this airframe. The CFM56-7B meets all environmental regulations thanks to the use of innovative technologies (titanium wide-chord fan blades, new-generation full authority digital engine control/FADEC), which also reduce fuel consumption by more than 8%.

Our partners

A major partnership with General Electric. Back in 1974 Snecma (Safran group) and General Electric created CFM International, an equally-owned joint venture, to develop the CFM56 turbofan engine for single-aisle commercial jets. Snecma is also a partner to GE on several larger turbofans, the CF6, GE90 and GP7200. On July 13, 2008, at the Farnborough air show in Britain, the two engine-makers signed an agreement renewing their partnership until 2040, as well as adding services to the agreement.
