Entry into service of the first Airbus A350 XWB equipped with Messier-Bugatti-Dowty wheels and brakes.

On October 9th, Finnair’s brand new A350 XWB completed its first flight, from Helsinki to Amsterdam.

The first European A350 XWB, which had arrived two days before from Toulouse (France), was highly anticipated by enthusiasts, who kept a close eye on the events and posted pictures of the new aircraft – outside as well as inside – on social networks. Within only one week, the aircraft has already completed several short-haul flights to London, Vienna, Berlin and Düsseldorf.

The Finnish airline, who is already one of Messier-Bugatti-Dowty's customers for its others aircraft, has chosen to equip the 19 aircraft ordered to Airbus with wheels and carbon brakes. The Messier-Bugatti-Dowty brake designed for the Airbus A350-900 is lighter than its competitors, which helps reduce both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It also features a greater endurance, with more than 2,000 landings per overhaul, and streamlined maintenance as it contains fewer parts.

This contract brings the number of airlines which selected Messier-Bugatti-Dowty as their A350 XWB equipment supplier up to 8, making the company the leader in the A350 XWB wheels and brakes market.
