Safran lands on Planète Sciences

Safran continues its work with the association Planète Sciences to raise young people's awareness of technical jobs in the aerospace industry. Most recently, the Group participated in the development of a science & technology module for educational workshops, designed to inspire students 8 to 16 years old.

Deployed through educational workshops, the science & technology module was unveiled on June 10, 2014 to 700 4th and 5th grade students (9-11 years old) from schools in Orly, at the Environment and Sustainable Development House at Orly Airport. These workshops were developed by Planète Sciences in conjunction with Safran, and provide an entertaining yet informative introduction to the aerospace sector, via concrete examples. The aim is to inspire these youngsters, especially the girls, to consider future technical and engineering careers. The workshops were led by Safran staff and focused on three key aspects of any aircraft: the engine, inertial navigation system and flight controls.

Traveling workshops

The workshops will travel all summer long: from July 15 to 27, they will be at the Le Bourget Air & Space Museum, for students as well as visitors. In August, the workshops will fly to Biscarrosse (Landes, a county near Bordeaux), not far from the beach, for families on vacation, especially their children. When classes resume in September ("La rentrée" as they say in France), the workshops will be given at schools throughout the country.
