Safran forms local partnerships to develop Messier-Bugatti-Dowty production facilities in Bidos
Bidos, France, January 21, 2013
Safran is boosting its investment in Messier-Bugatti-Dowty's plant in Bidos, located in southwest France, through the signature of support agreements with the Aquitaine Regional Council, the Pyrénées Atlantiques General Council and the Adour Garonne Water Agency.
The signature took place today during a ceremony in Bidos, officiated by Alain Rousset, President of the Aquitaine Regional Council, Georges Labazée, President of the Pyrénées Atlantiques General Council, and Alain Sauret, Chairman and CEO of Messier-Bugatti-Dowty.
These agreements will provide funding for the "Messier-Bugatti-Dowty Bidos:
Horizon 2015" project, representing a second phase in the on-going modernization program for the plant. Since 2007, Safran has invested about 10 million euros annually in refurbishment projects. The initial investments were primarily used to open a new heat treatment facility in 2007, followed by a new assembly unit in 2010.
Safran is investing about 35 million euros in the second phase of the project, which has two main objectives:
- The development of new landing gear production facilities, including the construction of a building spanning 6,500 square meters, dedicated to the machining of large titanium parts. These parts are intended for new widebody aircraft built by Airbus and Boeing, including the 787 and A350.
- The introduction of new, more environmentally responsible surface treatment technologies, to replace traditional chrome and cadmium-plating processes.
Alain Sauret said : « This project represents a major industrial challenge for Messier-Bugatti-Dowty. We are developing our skills and capacity to anticipate market trends and upcoming environmental regulations. This involves transforming our production facilities and skillset to maintain our technological edge. Through these investments we will enhance our competitiveness by dividing lead times by four, thus strengthening our leadership in the machining of large titanium parts for landing gear. »
