Gazpromavia selected the Turbomeca (Safran group) Arrius 2B2 to Power their Helicopters

Bordes, November 29, 2010

In the frame of the contract signed with Eurocopter, Gazpromavia selected the Arrius 2B2 engine to power their eight EC 135T2i helicopters. These aircraft will be operated in challenging weather conditions throughout Russia.

"Our decision to choose Turbomeca's Arrius 2B2 engine was notably based on engine performance and reliability. Furthermore, the Arrius 2B2 engine is designed and certified for extreme conditions down to -45°C. In addition, the engine can be operated with Russian fuel." said Andrei Ovtcharenko, Gazpromavia CEO.

The Turbomeca fleet in Russia comprises currently 75 Arrius and Arriel engines installed in 49 helicopters for civil operators, based mainly in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg.

In 2006, Turbomeca was the first western helicopter engine manufacturer to create a maintenance center in Russia with Gazpromavia, certified to European standards. The center is based in the Ostafievo airport near Moscow.

The Arrius 2B2 was designed to offer a flight profile which allows it to minimize loss of altitude on takeoff when flying single-engine mode and thus to meet the requirements of particular missions in high population density area, such as EMS. It offers as well the best performances at high altitudes and temperatures.

In addition, the engine TBO (Time Between Overhaul) has been expanded up to 4,000 hours.

Customers also benefit from a computerized maintenance aid thanks to the process of the data recorded from the Engine Electronic Control Unit.
The family of Arrius engines relies on a solid experience of more than 2,500 delivered engines, accumulating more than four million flight hours. Turbomeca worldwide network already provides the after sales support of Arrius for 430 customers in 60 countries.
